Welcome to TheRightBabyGear!

Written by therightbabygear

Hi!  Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  I’ll be blogging about the latest baby gear and accessories out in the market as well as giving a product review. I became a first time parent 3 years ago and I had no idea what products I needed so I hope I can give you advice on the essential gear that you might need.

For my first product review, I want to discuss the Hooter Hider nursing cover by Bebe au Lait.  The Hooter Hider nursing cover is one of the most practical baby gear/accessory for a nursing mother.

mayfair_1.jpg

As you can see from the picture, the nursing cover is similar to an apron.  You basically put the cover over your head and the cover drapes down below your waist.  You simply put your baby underneath the cover and feed.  The great feature of the Hooter Hider is it has boning around the collar that gives it an opening which allows moms to make eye contact with her baby while nursing.  Another great benefit of this nursing cover is it allows moms to nurse discreetly in public.  You no longer have to go to a private area to nurse while out in public.

The Hooter Hider nursing covers comes in many chic patterns.  From my experience, the most popular patterns are Sevilla, Kimono, Chocolat, Yoko, and Windsor.  Most of the nursing covers are made from 100% cotton.  The Black Eyelet, White Eyelet, and Ivory Eyelet are made from a 50% cotton, 50% polyester blend.  Bebe au Lait also launched 2 patterns (Pink Monaco and Turquoise Monaco) that are made from silk and will be launching a new line of organic covers.  I believe they’ll be coming out with 5 different patterns for the organic covers so stay tuned.

CONTEST…CONTEST…..CONTEST!!!

I want to celebrate my first blog with a giveaway.  Since my first blog is about the Hooter Hider nursing covers, I want to give away 5 Hooter Hider nursing covers of your choice to 5 lucky winners.  To enter, simply post a comment on which Hooter Hider nursing cover is your favorite.  All entries must be submitted by April 11.  The winner will be announced on April 14.  Good luck everyone!!

How can I possibly choose which hooter hider I love the most??? All the prints are awesome! I love using hooter hiders too. They are very well made, and make nursing in public very comforatable and welcoming! I even have dads comment on how cool they are! Ok… so I guess I’ll pick Chocolat

I also have the same one as shown in the picture. Wish I had bought it when my baby was younger though. Definitely a great purchase.

After hearing great things about the hooter hider, I bought one for myself. The soft spots design. I love it so much, I buy all my nursing friends one as a shower gift. I absolutely love the Mayfair and new Seville ones now. The Mayfair is my favorite.

I have 3 children and breast fed all of them. Unfortunately for me, I only found the hooter hider with my 3rd child. It was a godsend!! infact, i loved it so much, and gave so many props on it, several of my friends decided to purchase them. I am pregnant with my 4th child and I can’t decide which patterns I want to purchase this time. I absolutely love it!! Thank you so much for this product.

This was an amazing find for me! I was very nervous about being a nursing mother. another mommy told me about these and i jumped at the chance to have something that would help me get over my fear of breasfeeding in public. before the hooter hider i would feel the need to go into a closed room or bathroom. thats no way to be! anyway, my favorite it no longer available by a very close second is Winsor. i like non gender specific looking ones!

I have the Hooter Hider Mayfair that is shown in the picture. It’s been my favorite since I first began looking. I get so many compliments on it! Every mom wants to know where I got it and they all love the name. A Hooter Hider is a well received gift for any new or expectant mother. You’ve got to get one of these!

My favorite pattern is “Hot Dots.” It is fun and not too “girly” if you have a boy baby (if you care about that type of stuff). I love this product! I tried other nursing drapes and hated them, especially ones that are like a “cape” — either too short or way too bulky with tons of fabric going on… the bottom would fly up, it was hard to adjust them and manuever the baby. The HHs go right over your head in a flash and you arms are free and you are completely covered discreetly. As a bonus, they are perfect for draping over the baby while in a front carrier to protect their arms and legs from the sun.

HotDots is my favorite pattern.
However, when I got my Hooter Hider, there weren’t all of these fabulous pattern choices!
Hurray for Hooter Hiders!
I love this product and would love to have one in every pattern!

My favorite hooter hider is Cream Soda! This is our first baby and we are not finding out the sex so our theme is burnt orange and chocolate. With that being said I am obsessed with anything orange or chocolate. Our BOB stroller is orange, the room is burnt orange, etc…So when adding things to our registry I’ve tried to find things that compliment the colors. A hooter hider was at the top of my list. All of our friends had their first about a year and a half ago and I’ll never forgot thinking wow their so confident, stylish and most of all coordinated/graceful with breastfeeding. Then I was told their secret and knew if I ever had children a hooter hider was a MUST!!!

Comment from Ciandra on April 3rd, 2008, 8:15 pm

I have blue temple and love the Windsor Pattern the best. I love the Hooter Hider and wish I had it to nurse my first child.

Funny this contest is going on today, because I was just bragging at lunch to a friend of a friend of how much I love my hooter hider! I showed her mine, which is in the Windsor pattern and how I loved the fact that my son couldn’t pull it off like he could a blanket. And I could still see him from the top and no one could see him or me. I was looking at the patterns today and I really like the Kensington as well. Too cute!

Comment from Christy on April 3rd, 2008, 8:17 pm

I bought the Kimono in 2005, and it is still my favorite!

I think the Black Eyelet is the most chic! It almost looks like a piece of beautiful clothing, which makes it great especially when you are at a big party, and want to make breast feeding in public look beautiful, and discreet!

Comment from Jessi Levi on April 3rd, 2008, 8:18 pm

I love the white and black eyelet hooter hiders, they’re so delicate and would match my outfits perfectly!

Comment from Catalina Guillen on April 3rd, 2008, 8:19 pm

I have the Windsor. I chose it because it was simple, yet stylish and will be good if I have a girl in the future (I have a boy now) I use it all the time and I even use it as a sun shade for the car. My son doesn’t mind me blocking his view because he is intrigued by the pattern!

Comment from Rosalba Ordieres on April 3rd, 2008, 8:19 pm

One of the BEST inventions for new mommies EVER! A MUST HAVE for your diaper bag! I think my favorite print would have to be Sevilla, but it’s the one I don’t have yet (maybe soon)!

I love the Ivory Eyelet…. it can be “dressy” or casual! Of course I really like them all!!

I love it, love it, love it! I have have 4 kids and my Hooter Hider is great for the busy, on the go mom. I can manage to feed my baby and use my other hand taking care of my 3 kids, under 6. At that young age, you need all the tricks of the trade to function… and this is it! You need this, trust me!

I have the Newport and the blue and white one in the picture on the website (looks like Pink Temple but blue and white). I did not know of these products with my first son. I bought one to try with my second son. I loved it so much I bought another one…one for at home when guests come and one for the car. IT is one of the most useful baby items I own AND I was happy to see the company had “boy” colors!

Comment from Tawnya on April 3rd, 2008, 8:27 pm

I have the Lily Hooter Hider and love it. They are so practical and useful especially in confined spaces like aeroplanes!

Oh my gosh, the hooter hider is one of the things that goes with me EVERYWHERE! I love it! I love the boning that is put in at the neck line so you can peek in and see your baby. My son is a eater and we it is time, it is time! So the hooter hider alows me to nurse anywhere without showing my stuff!

My daughter was born 13 months ago and I used my hooter hider for the twelve months I exclusively breast feed her. It was the one Item I would not LEAVE the house without. I love the Kimono print. This cover also holds a special place in my daughters heart. When she was hungry she would point to the cover and I knew what she wanted. I think it is an essential item for breastfeeding mothers. I have given them to all the new moms in my family. Thank You , Claire and Ronnie Ekelund for such a great item.

Thanks for having this contest. My favorite is the YOKO. You just have to go with the Yoko as it is so elegant black and white with a beautiful pattern to engage the eye.

Comment from Rachel Yeow on April 3rd, 2008, 8:32 pm
36.

I have the Kimono Hooter Hider and LOVE it! Everyone always comments on it and asks where I got it…I plan on giving it at all of the baby showers in the future! Even if you arent a nursing mom…it is great to cover baby while sleeping or keep touches from strangers away!

Comment from Tara Pfeiffer on April 3rd, 2008, 8:33 pm
37.

If you are having a spring/summer baby (or just live somewhere warm) then you have to try the Mayfair! The white/pink pattern kept my kids covered and cool….some other cover ups either absorb too much heat, or are too thick (think sweaty baby). It was perfect and we loved it!!!! Now that we are getting ready for baby #3 in the fall, I think I am going to try some different colors as well!

Comment from Susan on April 3rd, 2008, 8:33 pm

My favorite is the Yoko pattern. I love my hooter hider. It makes nursing so easy, comfortable and stylish. I take it everywhere with my baby. It’s funny b/c she knows its time to feed every time I drape it on!

I would say “Windsor” and I would like to use it as a gift!

I have the Newport edition - it’s very sophisticated. My sister-in-law has had one for a couple of years and I only wish I hadn’t waited so long to get one — my father-in-law and father feel really comfortable staying in the room with me when I’m using it- and it was great at the mall so I can get out and be discreet. The boning is essential — the fabric being so lightweight is so much better than the blankets I was using in July and August when my son was first- born. This is a wonderful invention!

Comment from Kimberley on April 3rd, 2008, 8:40 pm

The white eyelet looks so pretty! It’s a nice light color for the Arizona heat!

I bought the Sevilla Hooter HIder and I absolutely love it. I am an extremely modest person and couldn’t see myself nursing in public any other way than using a Hooter Hider. I have had tons of people asking me where I bought this, and they have plans for buying one when they next have a child.

Comment from Cheyenna on April 3rd, 2008, 8:43 pm

My favorite is the Green Paisley! I picked it initially because I wanted a cover that could be used with either sex baby– and I like that it’s a different color than all my other baby gear, so I can always find it when I’m looking for it!

My favorite part of the hooter hider is the stiff part so that I can see my baby while still figuring out how to nurse well. My favorite design would probably be the black eyelet, because it seems so versatile!

I had the windsor hooter hider. Our family went for a walk around the river & when we loaded up the stroller we left the diaper bag sitting on the curb. I can’t live without it, so I orderd a new one the very next day!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!

I love Hooter Hiders! I wish I would have found them sooner… it makes nursing comfortable and feels a little more private in public! I think that all the patterns are beautiful, but I happen to own Kimono and Chocolat. I love having 2 because I can change which one I use depending on the mood I’m in. I always get compliments on them! They make great gifts too… I started giving them to all my friends who are having babies!

Comment from Sarah on April 3rd, 2008, 8:58 pm

I have the pink and brown one in the picture and the burp clothes to match. It’s the best thing I’ve purchased, I can finally nurse in public without feeling uncomfortable. I had another cover prior to this one but it was not only ugly, it didn’t work well. I wasn’t able to see the baby when I feed her. I love it!

Comment from Liz Wilson on April 3rd, 2008, 8:59 pm

I was apprehensive about nursing in public but once I saw the hooter hider on a mom at the park, I knew I’d have no issues once I had one. I love the Sevilla design!

I own the Newport bebe au lait. I love it and get comments on it all the time. I think at least 3 people have hooter hiders/bebe au lait covers now because of seeing mine. I’ve used it as a light weight blanket in a pinch as well, and have nursed in the mall, at the doctor’s, in the park, at the airport, etc–all in comfort because of my bebe au lait. I am also a big fan of the sevilla, the mayfair and the pink and blue temple patterns–I’ve gotten those as shower gifts for friends.

I love all the patterns but Windsor is my favorite! I love giving them to friends and family as baby gifts. This is a must-have item for all new moms!

I love my Hooter Hider. I have the green and brown Newport. I love this one because it is trendy and beautiful. This is my third child and I wish I knew about Hooter Hiders earlier. It has really decreased my anxiety when I breastfeed in public. Once someone asked me if I was cold. They thought I was just covering up with a blanket. I also love that I can see my baby. My other girls would grab at the blanket because they were used to seeing me. The HH helps me maintain eye contact with my baby, which for me is a very important part of nursing. Thanks to whomever designed this great mommy’s tool.

I have the Mayfair which is definitely in my color palette, but I also am coveting the ivory eyelet. They are all gorgeous! This is my third baby (due in 3 weeks) and I really wish I would have had one for my first two- they nursed for close to two years!

The Hooter Hider is a godsend. I never leave home without it. My favorite (but who can choose just one?) would have to be the Sevilla. Plus I just love the name!

I have the Kimono pattern Hooter Hider and want to make it into an apron when I am finished. I still carry it around in my diaper bag, even though I have finished nursing. I keep thinking it’ll come in handy for something else:)

All of the patterns are really gorgeous but I have to say, the Sevilla pattern just looks so luxurious. Even though I might be sitting in my sweats in the park nursing my baby, with that pattern over me I can pretend I’m vacationing at some exotic resort. I would love to own that one! I have the Yoko and get compliments on it all the time - it looks like artwork. Thanks for doing this contest - what a fun idea!

I had the Chocolat, but misplaced it when we moved, so when baby #2 came along, I ordered the Windsor, which I LOVE. I get so many compliments and questions about it from other moms! My newest favorite is the Kimono. Keep developing new hip patterns!

I have the nursing cover in paisley print. It’s wonderful! And the design and color is beautiful yet more subtle. My baby is 1 month old and I’ve already used it a dozen times.

Ahh, the Hooter Hiders - genius. And the best part is obviously the name, an instant conversation piece and object of humor with men and women alike. I received the blue temple pattern cover as a gift- which I love. However, after reading about the contest I was curious to check out the other patterns (as potential future gifts for showers) and I have to say that I really like the retro look of the cream soda pattern. In a word, I think it’s whimsical. . . :)

I just have to say that I LOVE my Hooter Hider. I became a Mom for the first time 8 months ago! My baby and I are always on the go, so I use my Kimono Hooter Hider everyday. I love the retro pattern! As a matter of fact, my brother-in-law always teases me about it and says “Jan Brady wants her Hooter Hider back!” What does he know about fashion?!?

I have the windsor Bebe au Lait, and absolutely love it. It gets tons of compliments, and was perfect for flying on a plane with my baby when he was very young. I recommend them to every new mom I talk to!

I was given “Kimono” as a gift on my first Mother’s Day and fell in love with it. It is so pretty and always made me feel femine (and hip) while I nursed my daughter.

I have since given it as a gift many times in the past two years, but I always search out the Hooter Hider lable (rather than Bebe Au Lait). It’s hysterical!

I have one that I have no idea what the name is, but i think the white eyelet is beautiful. Of course I knew if I bought a white one it would get stained so quickly with me, so I have one that is more colorful.

I purchased the Windsor pattern in anticipation of breastfeeding my son (due at the end of May). It is very distinctive and classy looking and seems so much better than throwing a blanket over his head…especially in summer.

I always buy these as gifts and people ALWAYS love them! My favorite is the Windsor. My mother is jealous that they didn’t have “hooter hiders” when she nursed me almost 30 years ago =)

I love the Hooter Hider! It is such a simple yet, chic item to have for a nursing mother. I bought the one in Pink Temple and it allows me to breastfeed my daughter anywhere I go–in the car, airplane, train, or bus. It has so many uses too–cover, burp cloth, sun shade, etc. Because of this, I have been able to breastfeed her exclusively for over a year now.

I love Hooter Hiders!! I got one for feeding my first baby & left it at a hotel when she was 6 months old. We went back to get it when I realized I had left it, only 30-45 minutes after checking out, & it was nowhere to be found! I was so disappointed, but I guess someone else got to enjoy it, too. My favorite is the Windsor & I definitely want one for my 2nd baby, due in August!

The hooter hider is a must for nursing. If you are in a public place or hanging out with friends who are uncomfortable with your breasts being displayed you can quickly cover up. They become a little harder to use once your baby is more actively grabbing and curious in things. I always recommend this to expecting mothers.

My favorite hooter hider is the pink temple. I bought my friend the seville, and she loves it.. It is my new favorite shower gift to give.. I love the fact that when you are nursing your child can’t pull it down and expose you. I wish i would have had one with my first child.

I love this product! I was nervous about breast feeding, this was my first child, and when I bought this cover up I was much more comfortable and confident and felt less confined. I was able to breastfeed in public, while maintaining a sense of privacy. The design is great! The neckline allows me to see my baby eating and no one else. The material is also perfect not to mention stylish. Chocolate is my favorite.

Everyone always told me nursing covers were a waste, they were Ccumbersome and made it difficult to see your baby. When I saw Hooter Hider I thought this one just might be different, and I was right. It’s awesome. It folds up easily and fits anywhere. Best of all it makes it very easy to keep eye contact with your baby. The beautiful designs are an added bonus, there are so many to choose from I had a hard time only buying one! I would highly recommend a Hooter Hider to any nursing mom who enjoys modestly nursing her baby with style.

All of the patterns are beautiful and stylish. I would be happy with any of the patterns, but the sevilla is very neutral. I would be drawn to this one because it could be used with a boy or a girl. The concept of the product is very useful for any nursing mother. It is important for me to able to meet my daughter’s needs at home or on the go.

My favorite one is the Kimono! I was watching Martha Stewarts show on TV and she had a baby special where all the members of the audience were moms and their babies. The camera panned the audience and I saw a mom nursing on live TV with the kimono. It is so beautful I noticed it right away. It is so great to have a product that a mother can use to nurse in public on National TV! I love the beautiful colors!

I have the Turquoise Monaco and used it for the first time in a restaurant with my one week old. It worked very well after the initial “set up” and while both my baby and I were sweating balls, I know it will continue to be a part of my breastfeeding repertoire.
The TM is made of silk and is beautiful. I plan to get another one made of cotton and save the silk one for my fancier outings.

I am so happy with my hooter cover. I brought it to the Easter family gathering and the moms commented on how they wish they had something like that when their kids were babies. Most of all, I can now comfortably go to church without having to worry about the baby’s blanket falling off! I’m looking forward to purchasing another one to match my other clothes. I have the Lily pattern.

I absolutely could not have nursed without my Hooter Hider. Not only did it offer privacy while I was nursing (and keep my son from being distracted) but I am a sales rep and I used it (in combination with a hands free pumping halter) while pumping in my car. It allowed me to return to work full time and still pump/nurse my son as often as I needed. I love the new ivory eyelet pattern as they no longer seem to make my pattern. A fantastic product!

I bought the Kimono patterned Hooter Hider Nursing Cover with my second child…and I absolutely love it! I’m always getting positive comments about the design and the pattern. I use to be so uncomfortable nursing my first child in public because the blankets would always fall off my shoulders. Now, with my Hooter Hider, I can relax and enjoy nursing my second child in public without those fears. I take it with me wherever I go, and use it everyday at work when I’m pumping on my breaks. What an awesome investment!!

I gave my daugher-in-law the chocolate one- and she used it all the time– (great for privacy nursing)- but alas!! It got lost and now she has to nurse using a towel/cloth.. Well, she is pregnant again- and I think the eyelet cream one- will be a good choice- to keep cool while nursing the color will be neutral.

I love my hooter hider, they are so beautiful I could never pick just one as my favourite. I currently have the Yoko, we didn’t know whether we were having a boy or girl and I figured the black and white would go well with a boy but still pretty for mommy. We had a beautiful baby girl and I’d love to get a more girly hooter hider, I love the new pink-monaco, that is gorgeous. But they are all very beautiful patterns. I love my White Eyelet Hooter Hider! I wore it through a museum so that my baby could sleep soundly underneath, and later in the day I sported it again to feed her while out. It breathes well and is a muted pattern that most people assume to be just a blanket draped for a sleeping little one! An excellent purchase and I’ve given four as gifts and recommended to many more! Thanks Bebe Au Lait!
